Eco-Friendly Innovation Blossoms in San Bartolo’s Wild Orchards With Sun-Mar Composting Toilets

In San Bartolo, Mexico, on the edge of the Sierra Laguna mountains, there are 17 wild orchards which combine the beauty of the natural world and the historic avenues of the Baja Sur. Sun-Mar has partnered with Buen Provencho resort’s owners, Amy and Nan, to bring the leading brand of composting toilets to the beautiful landscape.

Buen Provencho resort is located within one wild orchard with a rich tapestry of flora and wildlife, and calls roughly 6 acres of avocado and mango trees home. Resort guests experience the joy of visiting an area also dotted with guava, plantains, limes, oranges, grapefruit and bamboo. The resort offers a range of accommodations including glamping tents and three indoor rooms. The luxurious glamping tents are located in the orchards, allowing visitors to savour the stillness of nature combined with the comforts of home.

When Amy and Nan first purchased the property, their dream was to make it a destination that could allow the beauty of the area to be shared with people the world over without hurting the environment or impacting the orchards. Outhouses were out of the question as they could contaminate the natural spring water that fed the orchards, and after searching for suitable bathroom options, they found Sun-Mar’s composting toilets – the perfect solution.

Installed in restrooms used by guests, the Excel NE composting toilets are now an important part of the fabric of the resort. With the different accommodations available, the resort can accommodate up to 18 people and Amy is delighted that the toilets keep up without issue. They are so pleased with the existing toilets that they are adding a new Excel NE in one of the sections of the orchard so guests don’t have to walk too far for nighttime restroom visits.
