Installation

We have listed below some of the common guidelines applicable to most of Sun-Mar’s toilets. For specific information to your particular installation, we welcome calls to our Customer Service department, at 1 888 341 0782, option 4.

Electric toilets

  • There can be no horizontal or downward sloping sections of venting, no matter how small. This is universal to all Sun-Mar toilets.
  • The top of the vent, including an installed diffuser, must reach between 24 and 30 inches above the highest peak of the highest roof;
  • Do not use schedule 40 pipe. All electric Sun-Mar toilets come with enough 2″ thin-wall PVC vacuum tubing to clear one (1) story in an average house. If any more pipe is required, contact Sun-Mar for advice on where it can be obtained as it is important to make sure that the pipe used is consistent throughout the installation. While it is similar in look and dimension to typical 2″ pipe, the inside diameter of the thin-wall PVC is wider than the 2″ PVC. Switching between the two may seem easier during the installation phase, but it will cause constrictions in the vent, and will be an unpleasant chore to correct.
  • If the toilet is in use, it must be receiving power so the fan and heating element can function properly. If the toilet will be used for a weekend, it must be receiving consistent power for that weekend.
  • In residential applications, installing the safety drain is recommended due to the consistent liquid input. This is especially true if there are ultra low-flush toilets attached and in use.
  • At any time, if you expect the unit to have usage above its rated capacity, the safety drain is recommended.

Non-Electric toilets:

  • There can be no horizontal or downward sloping sections of venting, no matter how small. This is universal to all Sun-Mar toilets.
  • The top of the vent, including an installed diffuser, must reach between 24 and 30 inches above the highest peak of the highest roof.
  • Putting more than two (2) 45 degree bends in the vent is not recommended as it can impact your venting and cause odor in or around where the toilet is installed.
  • All Non-Electric Sun-Mar toilets come with enough 4″ vent pipe to clear one (1) story in an average house. If any more pipe is required, contact Sun-Mar for advice on where it can be obtained, it is important to make sure that the pipe used is consistent throughout the installation. Switching between two types of pipe may seem easier during the installation phase, but it will cause constrictions in the vent, and will be an unpleasant chore to correct.
  • For all residential units, an safety drain is recommended due to the consistent amount of liquid input. In weekend or vacation use, it is still recommended if usage is expected to be above rated capacity, or if there are ultra low-flush toilets attached and in use with the non-electric unit.
  • An optional 12 volt fan is available. In most installations, it is not required, however depending on installation conditions, it may be necessary. Contact Sun-Mar’s service department for information on ordering this part.
